163 | Water Ramps at Steamboat Springs

Growing up in New Jersey, Labor Day weekend was always about spending several hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic along the Garden State Parkway going down the shore for one final summer bang where we would enthusiastically share beach time with orange-skinned oompa loompa females who haven't progressed much past the stereotypes infamously showcased by Jami Gertz in 1992's "Jersey Girl." If that doesn't sounds too terrible, then let us not ignore having to split bar stool real estate with more than a few roided spikey-hair degenerate guidos from Staten Island who, for the unfortunate well-being of everyone within a thirty-foot radius, forgot to take their glucosamine pills that morning. For the many mountain-minded people that follow this blog, I'm sure this all seems just slightly better than being stranded inside enemy territory in Afghanistan, big fortunately, MTV's latest attempt to captivate millions of viewers towards the "Jersey Shore" scene has been grossly positive.

With that said, I've been missing a holiday tradition here in Denver ... well ... until two of my ski buddies brought me to Steamboat Springs over this past weekend to renew our youth as we eagerly and irrationally attempted to flip and spin off water ramps while attached to our skis at Bald Eagle Ski Lake organized by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (more information provided here). Under the guidance of freestyle coach Jonah Drescher, the facility has all the necessities to get your skiing fix during the summer with 5 ramps to choose from as well as two trampolines to perfect your tricks before taking them over water. We were clearly at least double the age of almost everyone else there, but the atmosphere was no different than what you would experience at first chair on a powder day.
